What happened to the trees? (Posted 10/15/26)
As some of you have noticed a number of trees have been felled and some have been replaced. In our Tree Report Card, there were 30 trees identified as problematic – dead, diseased, or unhealthy. The trees on the southeast side of the parking lot consisted of Ash and Maple trees. The Ash trees were infested with the dreaded Ash Boring Beetle and beyond salvage. Almost all the remaining Maples were diseased or had serious health problems. Either the trunks were split, they were dying in the middle, had a disease or root scalp. Again just not worth saving. With the unanimous advice of 2 arborists and a horticulturalist it was recommended to plant Swamp White Oaks (Quercus bicolor) and a Green Gable Black Gum (Nyssa sylvatica). In the near future, several other trees will be felled and replaced. Additionally the northern border with Wellborne Manor had 40+ Green Giant Arborvitae planted 2 years ago and are thriving under the care of one of dedicated parishioners.
