Worship @ St. Max

The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; it is also the font from which all her power flows.” (Second Vatican Council, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, #10) The Church teaches that “in the Church’s liturgy the divine blessing is fully revealed and communicated. The Father is acknowledged and adored as the source and the end of all the blessings of creation and salvation. In his Word who became incarnate, died, and rose for us, he fills us with his blessings. Through his Word, he pours into our hearts the Gift that contains all gifts, the Holy Spirit.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1082)

The whole liturgical life of the Church revolves around the Eucharistic sacrifice and the sacraments.” (CCC, #1113) “The fruit of sacramental life is both personal and ecclesial. For every one of the faithful on the one hand, this fruit is life for God in Christ Jesus; for the Church, on the other, it is an increase in charity and in her mission of witness.” (CCC, #1134)

Sunday is the pre-eminent day for liturgical assembly, when the faithful gather to listen to the word of God and take part in the Eucharist, thus calling to mind the Passion, Resurrection, and glory of the Lord Jesus, and giving thanks to God who has begotten them again, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead unto a living hope.” (CCC, #1167)

Therefore, liturgical worship and the sacraments, in particular the Sunday Eucharist, are the center of the Church’s life, and thus of parish life at St. Max.
