Liturgical education is crucial to the whole formation of our children in the faith. Participation in weekly Mass is the most important element of liturgical education that we can offer our children.
From Sharing the Light of Faith: National Catechetical Directory for Catholics in the United States (1977) we receive an explanation of the relationship between liturgy and catechesis. It states: "Lliturgy and catechesis support each other. Prayer and the sacraments call for informed participants; fruitful participation in catechesis calls for the spiritual enrichment that comes from liturgical participation...not merely by explaining the meaning of the ceremonies, but also by forming the minds of the faithful for prayer, for thanksgiving, for repentance, for praying with confidence, for a community spirit, and for understanding correctly the meaning of the creeds."
